Adam Wilder Weathering Products
Posted by MegaHobby.com on May 3rd 2016
Adam Wilder is one of the most well-known modelers in the world and we are pleased to now carry his line of products at MegaHobby.com! Formed in 2011, Wilder Products includes many varieties of weathering paints, powders, tools and supplies to help give your project that extra hit of realism. We’re very excited to share with you some of the different items the Wilder line offers:
Tools/Supplies
One of the hottest items in the Wilder line is Takk – reusable adhesive that can be used for masking, securing parts and holding details in place during assembly. It is also helpful to hold items in place while soldering.
The Wilder line also offers some great sanding material, such as this four-sided sander, with each side holding a different grit. It is great for sanding both flat and round surfaces. His smaller sanders accomplish the same goal, but in a different shape, allowing you to choose the sander that best fits your modeling style.
Lastly, Wilder also offers great auxiliary products, such as thinner, fixer, quick rust, textural plaster, and primers, all of which are great to have on your workbench at any time.
Textured Earth Line
Wilder’s line of Textured Earth Tones are acrylic based and contain grains. With great use for dioramas in making ground surfaces, Textured Earth colors each come in two textures: stony and fine. The powders can be poured right out of the jar onto your project, but they can also be thinned with water if you prefer. After drying for about 24 hours, the Textured Earth tones will not crack or shrink. Wilder recommends utilizing multiple tones together to create authentic ground work. For example, he recommends using a dirt or earth color mixed with snow in order to create more realistic, dirty-looking snow. After all, snow on the tracks of a tank is never purely white!
Nitroline
Within Wilder’s Nitroline are four different effects: Shadow washes, rust effects, speckling effects and earth effects. Shadow washes are a great way of adding subtle tonal variations and fake shadows to a project the help detail seams, rivets and other textures on a vehicle or diorama. Rust Effects are a big help in making an iron or metal tank look worn and chipped. It will enhance the authenticity of a model kit or diorama by creating chips in the paint, as one example. Speckling Effects are used with the technique of flicking fine amounts of paint onto a surface to give a model a variety of realistic appearances, including oxidation, rust, exhaust, water, dirt, or more. These colors can be washed away with enamel thinner, or diluted with Wilder’s Speckling effects to create less opaque specs. Lastly, his Earth Effects work similarly to many other weathering products currently on the market, allowing you to brush or pour the weathering material directly onto your model or diorama, with or without thinner, to give it a more realistic look.
Weathering Oils
Wilder’s line of weathering oils are perhaps the most intriguing of his product line. With a higher liquidity than regular artist’s oils, they are much easier to apply to a model kit to provide numerous weathering effects. Currently with 20 colors, many which are already sold out, Wilder is planning to double the size of this product line within the next few months. The weathering oils dry quickly and create a completely matte finish.
