Description
To avoid Treaty of Versailles limitations, German commanders introduced civilian vehicles into the army. In 1940, every motorized infantry and armored division had a battalion of motorcycle troops. Motorcycles were present in nearly all Wehrmacht units. With 16,500 produced, the BMW R75 helped formed the nucleus of the motorized units in all theatres of operations. The motorcycle was armed with an MG 34 mounted on the sidecar. On the road, it reached a maximum speed of 92 km/h.
