Description
In the beginning of the 1930s an idea emerged that a high-speed bomber could outstrip contemporary fighters. One aircraft borne of this concept was the twin-engine bomber Do 17, designed by Dornier in Germany. Starting in the beginning of 1939 it was produced in modification Do 17Z, which featured a new ‘Waffenkopf’ type nose and an air-cooled Bramo 323 Fafnir engine. In 1940 some Do 17Z-7 Kauz I night fighters were produced with powerful nose-fired armament. They served in the night fighter unit I/NJG 2 up until early-1941.
