Description
In the beginning of the 1930s an idea emerged that a high-speed bomber could outstrip contemporary fighters. One aircraft borne of this concept was the twin-engine bomber Do 215B-5, designed by Dornier in Germany. Starting in the beginning of 1940 a small series of 105 Do 215B planes with liquid-cooled DB 601A engines was produced. In 1941 production of the Do 215B-5 night fighter modification began. FuG 202 Lichtenstein radars were installed in these along with powerful armament. They served in the night fighter unit II/NJG 1 up until early-1944.
