Description
Developed as a closely guarded secret by Lockheed's "Skunk Works", the Nighthawk was a black project until 1988. It was designed to be invisible to enemy radar. Its unusual shape refracts radar pulses, reducing its radar signature to roughly one hundredth of one square foot—roughly the size of a half dollar sphere. This incredibly slim radar profile allows the Nighthawk to operate in SAM-heavy environments with relative impunity.
