Description
Development of this truck can be traced back to 1965, when the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States decided to design a heavy equipment transport (HET) tank truck. It was used to transport MBT-70 main battle tanks. In 1970 the MBT-70 was withdrawn along with the heavy equipment transport development program. The Federal Republic of Germany continued successful development of a new model called the SLT-50-2 tractor car, also known as the Formula Elefant tractor. The Army ordered 328 the last being delivered in 1980. The car and semi-trailer can carry Army Leopard 2 main battle tanks and equipment, including any armored vehicles.
