Description
HMS Dreadnought was approved for construction in May 1905 and entered service in December 1907. She served as flagship of the British Royal Navy's Home Fleet until 1912. In 1916 she entered the First World War and succeeded in sinking the German U-29 submarine in the North Sea, then was deployed to patrol the Thames estuary until 1918. She was transferred to the Reserve in 1919 and demolished in 1921. HMS Dreadnought represents an important milestone in battleship technology; ships of its kind are commonly known as "dreadnoughts" and ships built before this battleship are often called "pre-dreadnoughts”.
