Description
The Il-40 was a two-seat Soviet jet engine armored ground-attack aircraft. Its first flight in 1953 went well besides the guns’ combustion gas disturbing engine airflow and causing the engine to hiccup or flame out. Remedies took a year and involved radical changes that resulted in the aircraft resembling a double-barreled shotgun from the front.
