Description
In the beginning of the 1930s an idea emerged that a high-speed bomber could outstrip contemporary fighters. One aircraft borne of this concept was the twin-engine bomber Ju 88, designed in Germany. Starting in the spring of 1941 the modification Ju 88A-4 was produced, which featured liquid-cooled Jumo 211J engines and increased armament. Ju 88A-14 differed by setting the MG FF cannon in the ventral gondola. These versions were primarily used in an anti-shipping role over the Atlantic, Baltic and Mediterranean Seas from 1941-1943.
