Description
Without a doubt the Panther is the most famous German tank of WWII. The first serial variant was Pz.V Ausf.D. Mass production began in January 1943. Panther Ausf.D tanks received the baptism of fire during the ‘Citadel’ operation in summer 1943. Later they were widely used on the Eastern Front, in Italy, and, after D-Day, on the Western Front as well. Panther tanks had very powerful 7.5cm guns and reliable armor, but they were too heavy and complicated. Still, Panther was the most serious enemy for any WWII Allied tank.
