Description
The SH-3 Sea King was the world’s first amphibious helicopter, developed to counteract the growing threat of Soviet submarine warfare during the 1950s. It was first operational with the US Navy in 1961 detecting and tracking these subs. It was also used for search and rescue, transport, anti-shipping and airborne early warning operations. It was exported in large numbers to several countries, many of whom then built their own under license.
