Description
USS Texas (BB-35) is the second New York class battleship. She participated in the 1914 Mexico Tampico incident and in WWII served as an escort ship for other Allied ships. She served in the Atlantic theater in North Africa and was involved in the Normandy landings, then moved to the Pacific to assist the Allied landings in Iwo Jima and Okinawa islands. She received five Battle Stars from WWII. USS Texas kept a number of historical records and is the oldest surviving American dreadnought. USS Texas was the first US battleship fitted with anti-aircraft artillery and modern fire control systems and military reconnaissance. She was permanently converted into a museum ship, and stands as a United States National Historic landmark.
