Description
TheWalrus floatplane was a British single-engine amphibious biplane recon aircraft first flown in 1933. It was originally designed for use as a fleet spotter and would be catapulted from warship decks. Later the Walrus was used in other roles including as a rescue aircraft. The Walrus continued in service throughout WWII and served with the Fleet Air Arm and the Royal Air Forces and Navies. It was the first British squadron-service aircraft to incorporate a fully retractable main undercarriage, completely enclosed crew accommodation and all-metal fuselage into one airframe.
