MCW Finishes Model Paint and Finishing Supplies

Build a paint plan around MCW Finishes colors, primers, clears and preparation products at MegaHobby. Compare automotive shades, engine colors, military references and railroad colors by the exact SKU. The range also includes pigments for weathering and dedicated products for reducing or hardening compatible finishes.

Choose the color around the subject

For a model car, compare the named shade and any year or manufacturer reference with your intended paint scheme. Test the complete finish on a spare body panel or spoon. For military subjects, use the FS, RAL or RLM reference where one is supplied, and compare the base color next to your planned camouflage and weathering. For railroad projects, compare the color with the locomotive or rolling stock’s date, lettering and paint scheme.

Prepare, paint and control the final sheen

Choose the primer and reducer around the particular MCW product you will use. Prepare a test surface with the same primer, color and finishing steps as the model. Judge the dry appearance under consistent lighting, especially with metallics, pearls and gloss body colors.

Match clears and hardeners by their product numbers. The 1017E 2K clear uses its designated 1017EH hardener. MCW’s 1003E enamel hardener serves compatible color coats and the separate 1K clear group. Follow the current directions for each product when preparing a mix.

Plan supplies for the whole project

Choose colors before assembly makes areas difficult to reach. On a car, plan the body, engine and interior finishes together. On a military model or railroad project, test the effect of washes, pigments and the final clear on the same sample. Keep a labeled swatch so a later touch-up can be compared with the original mix.
