Mission Models Iridescent Blue – Special-effect acrylic paint
Iridescent Blue is a Mission Models effect color for custom model finishes. Compare pearl, iridescent and color-change acrylics for car bodies, science fiction panels and custom finishes. The base coat and viewing angle affect how the finish reads.
Why choose this product?
- Water-based acrylic color for brush detail work and airbrushing
- Part of the Mission Models paint system, with compatible primers, reducer and clears
- Use a test swatch to judge the dry shade over your chosen primer
Recommended Mission Models workflow
- Swatch the base coats. Compare the effect over two bases. For Color Change paints, try a metallic base or a solid base as recommended by Mission Models.
- Set up the airbrush with Mission Models Thinner / Reducer as needed. Test the mix and spray pattern on scrap before moving to the model.
- Adjust working time if needed with a small amount of Polyurethane Intermix in a compatible color mix. Test how it affects sheen and leveling.
- Choose the final sheen with Mission Models clear coats where the build calls for it. Test the complete paint and weathering sequence first.
Where it fits in your build
For Color Change paints, Mission Models suggests trying silver, aluminum or another metallic base, or testing a solid base. Spray identical swatches over two bases and compare them under the same light.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose a base color?
Spray matching samples over different bases. Compare the dry effect in direct and angled light before painting the finished piece.
What thinner should I use for airbrushing?
Use Mission Models Thinner / Reducer to adjust the paint as needed. Start with the manufacturer’s directions and adjust for your setup.
Is Polyurethane Intermix required?
It is optional for standard color coats. It can extend working time and alter the sheen, so compare a dry swatch before committing to a large panel.
