Alclad II Primers for Metallic Lacquer Paint Systems
Alclad II Primers are essential for building a smooth, durable foundation for lacquer-based metallic paints. Proper surface prep improves adhesion, enhances final appearance, and helps metallic and specialty finishes perform at their best.
These primers are especially important when applying chrome, polished aluminum, and other reflective finishes where surface flaws will show through the top coat.
Why Proper Priming Matters

Selecting a base for your project
For natural-metal and other metallic finishes, the smoothness of the underlying surface affects the final result. Microfiller primers can help reveal or address preparation work, while gloss bases are particularly relevant to certain reflective finishes. A gloss base is not interchangeable with every primer: follow the specific metallic color’s instructions, allow layers to cure as directed, and test unfamiliar material combinations first.
