Academy PBY5A Black Cat Aircraft 1/72 Scale Model Kit

Academy PBY5A Black Cat Aircraft 1/72 Scale Model Kit brings PBY5A Black Cat Aircraft to your workbench in 1/72 scale. The Catalina subject combines a broad wing with a boat-shaped fuselage for a distinctive patrol-aircraft display.

Planning the build

Test the wing support alignment before fixing it in place. Use subtle changes in sheen to bring out a dark finish without heavy contrast.

Working in 1/72 scale

In this scale, clean alignment and controlled paint layers have a strong effect on the display. Compare the model with companion subjects in the same scale, then judge shading and markings from the normal viewing distance. Keep fine details clear by testing how much paint, wash and final finish you need.

Painting and markings

Choose the marking option in the instructions before selecting colors. Test the primer and base color on a spare piece, then compare any panel wash or highlight against that sample. Plan masks for glazing and sharp color boundaries before the final assembly makes access more difficult.
