Evergreen Styrene

Evergreen Styrene for Scratch Building and Model Detailing

Build the part your kit does not include with Evergreen styrene at MegaHobby. This range brings together plastic sheet, strip, rod, tube and shaped sections for custom model parts, railroad structures, dioramas and architectural projects. Start with the shape you need, then choose its dimensions and package size. The same material can become a simple spacer or the starting point for a complete miniature structure.

Choose a material around the job

Plain sheet is useful for walls, floors, bulkheads and panels. Narrow strip creates repeatable trim and framing, while solid rod and hollow tube cover cylindrical or boxed details. Angles, channels, I-beams, H-columns and T shapes provide recognizable profiles for industrial framing and exposed supports. Half- and quarter-round sections add curved trim without requiring you to reshape a full round rod.

For buildings and railroad projects, patterned sheets establish repeated details quickly. Compare V-groove, clapboard, board-and-batten, novelty and corrugated patterns by their appearance and spacing. Standing-seam roofing and sidewalk or tile sheets give you additional starting surfaces for a structure or streetscape. Metal-effect siding in this range is styrene plastic, not sheet metal.

Read dimensions and package sizes carefully

Thickness, width, diameter, spacing and overall stock length describe different things. A thin sheet with wide-spaced grooves is not equivalent to a thicker sheet with the same pattern. HO-, O- and S-scale strip designations represent scaled lumber sizes; they should not be read as the actual cross-section in full-size inches. Compare the exact item number when replenishing an existing supply.

Regular packs, economy packs and dealer refills also serve different needs. Buy a smaller package for an individual detail or experiment; choose a larger count when you are repeating the same component. An assortment can broaden the options on your workbench, but an odds-and-ends bag should not be treated as a guaranteed selection of particular sizes. Dealer displays and rack accessories are listed separately from ordinary modeling stock.

Plan the build before cutting

Make a measured sketch, lay out the cut sequence and think about which joints will remain visible. Dry-fit components, support long or broad parts as needed and choose an adhesive suitable for the materials being joined. Keep useful offcuts for test pieces and small details. A paint or adhesive test on scrap can prevent a problem on the finished assembly.
