Bare Metal Foil 6 x 11 Thin Sheet Chrome Foil (New and Improved)

Bare-Metal Foil Chrome gives modelers a thin, self-adhesive metal covering for detailed finishing work. Available from MegaHobby, it can be cut into small pieces for trim or applied to selected panels where the appearance of real metal supports the subject.

Chrome for scale-model detail

Bright trim around window surrounds, body moldings, emblems and other plated details can give a model car or truck a more convincing finish. Model cars, trucks, aircraft and display models all offer opportunities for carefully chosen metal accents. Match the finish to photographs of your subject rather than assuming every metal component should have the same sheen.

Prepare, apply and refine

A smooth surface helps the metal finish look consistent. Inspect the area for dust, scratches and rough paint before application. Test adhesion on a discreet area or spare painted piece, particularly when the underlying finish is delicate. Do not assume that an adhesive-backed product is harmless to every paint system.

Plan manageable sections, position the foil carefully and burnish it gently into the surface detail. Use a sharp modeling blade and controlled pressure when trimming, taking care around the underlying paint. Practice on a spare part before tackling a visible window surround or a larger aircraft panel.

Foil is a finishing material rather than a repair for an uneven surface. Take time over preparation, and decide which edges or panel boundaries will provide a natural stopping point before applying each section.
