Choose the range for the task

LP is the bottled lacquer family. Colors, metallics, clears and Flat Base have distinct purposes within it. Use the compatible lacquer thinner and product directions; acrylic thinner is not a universal substitute. Similar color names in other Tamiya systems need not give an identical appearance.

Test the complete finish

Prepare a sample using the primer, color and final coating you intend to combine. Evaluate the dried appearance before masking or adding decals. The underlying surface and final sheen affect the result, and a familiar color name does not guarantee an exact match across different paint systems.

Plan the workbench sequence

A model car body, aircraft camouflage finish, military vehicle interior or scenic detail can call for different tools and application methods. Begin with the subject and the actual materials, then choose the products for preparation, application and cleanup. Follow each product’s directions for compatibility and drying or curing time.
